Kanto and Johto Story progression
Two regions each contain eight chapters. Follow their supplied teams, reinforcements and actual wave counts instead of borrowing another game's story advice.
Legal chapter teams, not your whole collection
These examples use the chapter’s chosen starter and already available reinforcements.
| Chapter | Team | Combined cost | Remaining | Waves |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First Steps | Charmander + Pichu | ₽350 | ₽250 | 12 |
| Moonlit Caverns | Charmander + Gastly + Geodude | ₽750 | ₽0 | 15 |
| A New Partner | Cyndaquil + Mareep | ₽675 | ₽125 | 12 |
Try it in this order
- Choose the listed starter and use Story Team for progression rewards.
- Buy only the shown available lines; keep the displayed remaining money.
- Read that chapter’s waves, then follow its next chapter and newly unlocked roles.
Kanto 1 uses the Pikachu collection line’s base form, Pichu. The Kanto 3 example chooses Charmander; changing starters changes the legal roster.
Use each chapter's actual budget and waves
Switch between Kanto and Johto on the Story screen without erasing the other region's progress. Each has eight chapters, but their wave counts differ. First Steps begins with ₽600, 100 lives and 12 waves; Johto's A New Partner begins with ₽800, 100 lives and 12 waves. Most later chapters have 15 waves, while the fifth chapter in each region has 20. Read the chapter record rather than importing Classic's 30-wave endpoint or map-difficulty starting resources.
Prepare Kanto's coverage transitions
Kanto initially supplies your chosen starter and Pikachu, then introduces more roles. Moonlit Caverns adds Geodude, Gastly and Machop; Storm at the Cape brings Abra, the other starters and Lapras. Each answers different threats rather than simply replacing the opening attacker. Keep Ghost revelation available for The Haunted Tower, and inspect Ground enemies before leaning on Electric damage. Use Story Team for progression rewards. My Pokémon is free play and does not replace the rewarded chapter route or count every progression statistic.
Adapt to Johto's supplied reinforcements
Johto begins with Chikorita, Cyndaquil or Totodile alongside Mareep. The Ilex Shrine adds Slugma and Hoothoot; Swaying Sprout Tower brings Sudowoodo, Gastly and Tyrogue. The Lighthouse later supplies Natu, the other starters and Chinchou. The Red Gyarados has 20 waves, and The Ice Path introduces Larvitar before the final chapters. Match each chapter's supplied roster to its enemy list and budget. This is not Pokelike's gym-and-Elite-Four campaign, so do not import its progression assumptions.
